Incidence ADHD: Boys tend to be more quickly idetified in school due to problematic behaviors, such as getting into trouble in class for being disruptive. Boys also tend to be diagnosed with hyperactivity, while girls tend to get diagnosed more with the inattentive type of adhd. The latter is harder to idetify, while hyperactivity is more apparent and more easily identified.

Not known or do they: Women are less likely to externalize with their adhd. So an inattentive adhd female student will be assessed as "withdrawn, " while an equivalent hyperactive male will be noticed. Allowing for the different clinical presentation in women, there is still a male preponderance in adhd. There may be an increased susceptibility in males for adhd, or a decreased susceptibility in females.
