How do you treat alcohol addiction?

3 Areas: Begin with a comprehensive alcohol and drug evaluation. Then based on the results, there are 3 areas of treatment to consider. Depending on symptoms and underlying causes: (1) medication for depression, anxiety or other areas. (2) psychotherapy to address issues related to self-esteem, selfishness, power and control. (3) consider a self-help group like alcohol anonymous.

More : Dr chen is quite correct. But there are also promising medications to help with alcohol cravings, including naltrexone, veranacline, antabuse, (disulfiram) diazepam, and combinations thereof. All of these should be done in the context that dr chen outlined - counseling, 12 step program, treatment of underlying conditions that lead to using alcohol as self medication.
