It is treated with antibiotics, specifically benzathine penicillin g as an injection. Penicillin-allergic patients can use doxycycline.

Started doxy 6 days after possible exposure to syphilis, not right after contact (MSM oral). Is 6 days after exposure early enough to prevent syphilis? I took it for 7 days. can doxy intake make a syphilis test false-negative 6 weeks after finishing?
I realize doxycycline for 2 weeks 2x100mg/day can treat primary syphilis. But what about incubating syphilis (before any symptoms present)? Could starting 10 days of doxycycline (2x100mg/day) within 24-48hrs post exposure prevent infection?
