Possibly: It depends on your illness, and its treatability. Many people deal with psychiatric illnesses, and still work and support themselves and their families. On the other hand, some people with severe and persistent mental illnesses are so incapacitated that they cannot work. You would need a full psychiatric evaluation and much paperwork with the disability office to determine this.
