Megaloblastic anemia: Folate (folic acid) is a "building block" for red blood cells. Without it, the red cells comes out big, blown up and not made efficiently. Fortunately, folate (folic acid) is plentiful in fresh fruits and vegetable.

Folate (folic acid) anemia: Folate (folic acid) is one of multiple nutrients and vitamins needed for successful hemoglobin (blood) production. A deficiency of folate (folic acid) results in ineffectual blood production causing an anemia. The red blood cells with folate (folic acid) deficiency are larger than normal so it is one of the macrocytic anemias or large cell anemias. There are other diseases that can cause macrocytosis so it needs to be differentiated.
