A member asked:

Is it normal for my mouth to still hurt a week after getting my wisdom teeth pulled?

Depends: Pain one week after surgery could be related to a number of things. If you are still swollen and tender in an area and running fever, a postop infection could be present. Residual irregularities in the extraction sites can also be a cause. Some patients may truly have pain related to a specific cause, while others may have some soreness, which may be annoying but not painful.

Yes: You may have had a complex situation to remove them. Most people feel better after a week but it may take another week or ten days for you. Keep following any instructions your surgeon gave you for post op care and try pain meds like Ibuprofen if you have not done so.

Yes: Healing process can take 7-10 days. Speak to your dental surgeon about whether you could have dry sockets.
