A member asked:

Is decreased mood another word for depression?

5 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Possibly: "decreased mood" might be a way of describing depression. A depressed mood might also be thought of as feeling sad or empty, down or blue. For people to be viewed as having a major depressive episode, however, they must have five or more (out of 9) symptoms during the same two-week period. In addition, your doctor will consider other factors in making a diagnosis of a depressive disorder.
