Depends how bad: Soreness the next day or two after exercise can be normal, especially if you are just starting. Very bad pain can indicate that something more is going on. You can use ice and/or heat on sore muscles. In a pinch you can use nsaids if there are no contraindications, however this suppresses the pain causing inflammation that is also repairing the muscle and making is stronger.
