Follow up w/surgeon: Diarrhea can last for weeks; generally decreases with time. Usually not fatty, foul smelling, yellowish, bulky, sticky. Tell your surgeon.

See below: Diarrhea early on after undergoing cholecystectomy is not unheard of and can happen in 5-10% of patients. It usually subsides spontaneously within 4-6 weeks of surgery. Keep your doctor informed and if this does not cease there are treatment options.

A month or two: You can have diarrhea after a fatty meal when the gallbladder has been removed. This should resolve as the body adjusts to not having a gallbladder, a few months at most. If still having symptoms after that time interval would see your internist.
