I'm 27 & doctor said thoracic bone pain classic of fracture. x-ray inconclusive, but doesn't believe broken because of my age. what could cause pain?

Rib or muscle: Rib fractures can be difficult to spot on xray. Also, if the muscles (intercostal muscles) between the ribs are injured/strained they can cause a great deal of pain.

Varies: Multiple potential causes. Did you have an injury significant enough that you could have had a fracture? Consider requesting an mri to more fully evaluate your complaints.
