Are personality traits inherited?

No easy answer: Rhat remains an area of contraversy and relates back to nature vs nurtue or heredity vs environment. Certain pers traits do seem to occur within generations of a family, yet is it genetic or hbeing raised in a family with these traits that bring out the trait? It is probably a combination of both.

For 30-60% of people: Multiple studies have shown that many personality traits are more inherited than acquired, showing a 30-60% range in the influence of inheritance. Most studies seem to show over 50% is based on genetics, and the rest on environment. That is not to say that family does not have substantial influence on personality development - studies say they can mitigate personalities but not change them.
