Allergy consultation: A medical evaluation to determine the cause of your eye symptoms is the first step. If bacterial or viral conjunctivitis is ruled out, your pcp can order a blood test for allergic sensitivity called a rast. Unfortunately, rast tests can be expensive, typically costing you or your insurance about $25.00 per test. Allergists perform skin testing that provides the same information for about $5 per.

Watery eyes: Watery eyes can be suggestive of allergy but also of dry eyes. If the eyes are itchy it is more suggestive of allergy. If you have a gritty or sandy feeling , then dry eyes are most likely. The use of otc ocular lubricants/tears can sometimes be helpful.. For allergy, there are otc allergy eye drops that can be tried.

Allergy medicines: If your watery eyes are due to allergies then allergy meds would work. Medicines like antihistamine pills and antihistamine eye drops are helpful.
