Hairy tongue: Black hairy tongue is caused by elongation of papillae of the tongue, appear fur- like. It is not considered a disease. Good mouth hygiene recommended.

Different types: There are different types of hairy tongues. A black hairy tongue can be associated with thrush, autoimmune disease, or it may be stained, or a side effect of taking a medication or supplement. See your dentist or md.

Hairy tongue: Hairy tongue is a harmless condition in which there is enlargement of papillae on tongue, occurs in adults over 40 yrs. Stroke it: On a regular basis, stick your tongue out as far as possible and brush it, with your toothbrush and lots of toothpaste. Also use a strong mouthwash like listerine.

Brush and scrape it: Use a tongue scraper, available otc, or your tooth brush to brush the top of your tongue. Go as far back as you can tolerate.
