What will a doctor do to help a broken finger heal?

Immobilize it: At the least, a broken finger needs to be immobilized with a splint to allow the bone to heal. Some fractures are treated with surgical pins to bring the fractured segments closer together so they can heal.

Depends: Non-displaced fractures can be immobilized with a splint or cast. Displaced fractures may need to be reduced or surgically fixed. Sometimes we use plates and screws, other times pins are used. Fractures involving the joint usually require fixation.
