What is a pyogenic granuloma?

Tissue overgrowth: A pyogenic granuloma occurs after an injury or trauma. This is part of the body's healing response. The granulation tissue grows quickly to cover the area of injury and will usually be covered by epithelial tissue (skin). Sometimes this balance is thrown off and the tissue grows to quickly or the skin grows to slowly. To treat this problem, the granuloma is removed and the skin is sutured closed.
