Possible, unlikely: Kwashiorkor is a disease from severe protein malnutrition resulting in ascites. It would be very unlikely to occur in the us, to have such severe malnutrition. Much more likely cause is liver disease, and less likely is severe heart dysfunction causing liver damage or fluid collection.
