Is it OK to be bad?: Perhaps you have a well-developed sense of right and wrong and are especially hard on yourself when you do something wrong--even skipping work (if you're violating an agreement in doing so). Your "conscience" is a positive attribute that steers you toward doing what benefits you in the long run. For example, even if you were to skip work and feel fine about it you might still get fired.

Guilt: If your guilt is excessive you want to examine the reality of your feelings. Does your absence warrant excessive guilt or are you a guilty person in general and your harsh conscience gets extended to work? Confide in a friend and ask for truthful feedback about your work absence and ask how she or he thinks any person would feel in your position.Best.

Overwhelming guilt?: This is one that you would have to answer yourself, after some reflection. The rest of us here may have theories based on our own projections, but you're the one living your life. To learn together about you, i'd invite you to talk about your feelings until you get to the heart of things. You really can, you know, if someone is truly listening and hearing you. A therapist could be that for you.
