A member asked:

For about how long does diverticulitis accumulate in the body?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No "accumulation": Diverticuli are little pockets of the colon that are prone to rupture, causing inflammation at the site of perforation, called diverticulitis. This will usually close off without surgical rx, often requiring antibiotics, either "by mouth" or intravenously, depending on the severity of the episode. The length of therapy varies with the severity of the episode, from days to weeks.
