diet for diverticulitis?

Early vs. Late: Acute diverticulitis is associated with swelling of the colon that may create a temporary partial blockage of the colon. Therefore, we often advocate no food or just liquids during the initial phase of treatment. When food is resumed, it is common to recommend a low-residue diet early on. After the inflammation resolves, we often recommend high-fiber diets, which may reduce the risk of recurrence.

What are some effective diet pills?

Dr. Samuel Sadow

Yes: Fda approved diet pills are only prescribed under your doctor's care and for short times only. Tenuate and Phentermine are the safest, but have certain contraindications. If you think you need a diet pill you likely need a good weight loss physician to prescribe a program for you. Most people fail in dieting because they're not being well supervised and get discouraged.

Unknown : Nobody knows exactly how long before a diverticulum becomes blocked until infection sets in. It's also unclear exactly get the relationship between diet (e.g. Seeds) and diverticulitis is. If your diet makes it worse, alter it accordingly.

A 47-year-old member asked:

Which type of diet is advisable for a patient with diverticulitis?

Diverticulitus: Diverticulitis means an active infection of small pouches of the colon that needs treatment with antibiotics. With an active infection, foods should be small and very light, liquids & a few sift foods until the infection has resolved. Then later your doctor would start you on high fiber foods after infection has fully resolved.

Quite right; and I also recommend a fiber supplement such as metamucil. Also, lots of people are going to tell you to avoid seeds and nuts...this is FALSE and actually makes diverticulosis worse! Don't believe your aunt Petunia, believe a doctor.
