Inflammation: It is related to acute inflammation of a diverticulum(a sac-like protrusion of the colonic wall), generally considered to be due to be related to microperforation of a diverticulum. It can present with a wide range of symptoms but most commonly abdominal pain. Other common symptoms are nausea(sometimes with vomiting), constipation, diarrhea, flatulence, and bloating.
