Yes: Schizophrenia is partly predictable by genetics. That is, if one or both parents have schizophrenia, their children have a much higher risk, compared to the average population, of having it too. However, the risk is not 100%, so other factors besides genetics are apparently involved too. No one knows exactly why schizophrenia occurs.

Yes: Schizophrenia runs in families. If one parent has it, the child has about a 10% risk. The risk of developing schizophrenia may go up as high as 50% if both parents are affected. Schizophrenia effects about 1% of the population. The most common age of onset of symptoms is in the late teens and early 20s.
