Antipsychotics: Schizophrenia is a brain disease consisting of being out of touch with reality, delusions, hallucinations, apathy, cognitive problems and being unable to relate to others. Antipsychotic medications are the treatment of choice. Now patients will usually be given a "second-generation" or "atypical" such as risperidone, quetiapine or lurasidone. Older medications such as haloperidol however work.
