Many factors: Most important advanced female age when they first try to conceive. Reduced fertility in the population cannot be excluded. Women should not use Clomid (clomiphene) or ivf to have twins, the aim is conceive in a singleton baby which is the best outcome.

Obesity, older age +: The obvious answer is obesity and increasing maternal age, however there is clearly a tsunami of infertility heading for our shores and it may not be only due to these obvious causes. Male factor infertility is increasing dramatically and may have to do with environmental pollutants, lifestyle, ambient radiation/microwave/cell phone exposure or other unknown factors.
