Unrelated: Periods take place because of fluctuation of hormone levels in the blood, this lead to build up then shedding of the lining of the uterus. Conception requires development of a follicle (that encloses the egg). So women can menstruate without ovulation. Also a woman can make an egg but the egg is not healthy (egg chromosomes are abnormal) so these may not lead to conception or can lead to conceptio.
