Parkinson's disease: is not curable. It is a progressive illness which progresses at different rates in different people. Parkinson's disease is due to a deficiency of dopamine in a specific area in the brain. Medications that replace the dopamine, mimic the action of dopamine, or reduce the breakdown of dopamine in the brain are used to treat the symptoms. Deep brain stimulation may be helpful if meds are not.
