Could be either.: Pain in the left upper quadrant or left lower chest could have many causes. The most serious to consider is coronary ischemia (lack of blood flow to the heart). After that, you would have to lift things like a pulmonary embolus or other condition involving the lungs. It could be an issue with the esophagus, stomach, or spleen, too. Or it could just be indigestion. See a doctor if it persists.
