Good question.: Nobody knows for sure. Low blood sugar, dehydration, acetaldehyde intoxication (alcohol metabolizes into acetaldehyde in your blood), and glutamine rebound are all theorized causes of hangover symptoms, but there is no definitive consensus on why people get hung over. The interesting thing is that some people never get a hangover no matter how much they drink, and nobody knows why that is either!
