A member asked:

Can you get a brain disease as a child, or do you have to be born with it?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Brain diseases: There are a variety of brain disease. There are infections acquired during pregnancy that can produce congenital brain damage; there are genetic disease and disorders of development that keep the brain from forming normally (like hydrocephalus, encephalocele, etc.), which are obvious at birth, there are genetic diseases present at birth that do not manifest till later in the 1st or 2nd year.
