Possible, but rare.: Shock wave lithotripsy (swl) is a technology that uses focused sound waves to fragment kidney stones. These impulses have been shown to cause some disturbances of heart rhythm, usually provoking premature beats. These machines are now "gated", meaning that a simultaneous ekg delivers pulses at the safest moment of the cardiac cycle. Svt with eswl has been described in the literature, but is rare.
