12-14 weeks: Although an ultrasound can detect fetal (the baby) movement as early as 7 weeks; most pregnant patients typically report the baby moving around 12-14 weeks. The baby "kicking" is usually the sensation described.

17weeks: Usually the sensation of fetal movement or "quickening" begins around 17 weeks with small flutters that you may not be sure if "that's it". Over the next few weeks movements will become more definite.

18-22 weeks : Quickening is the term used for when women begin to feel fetal movement. Most will feel the first movement around 20 weeks - some a little sooner and some a little later. If you have an ultrasound you will see the baby moving much sooner. For first time moms it can be hard at first to know the difference between "kicks" and bowel gas but as you get further along this will become clear.
