It Varies: Child abuse definitely puts a person at risk for emtional difficulties in adult life. There is also an increased risk of problems in relationships, drug and alcohol problems, and the possibility of engaging in abusive behavior as an adult. However, there are no guarantees. Some children face significant abuse but do well as adults. Some of this can be affected by proper treatment.
