Heartburn: The most common symptom is heartburn or acid burning in the chest. Chronic dry cough, sore throat, hoarseness and difficulty swallowing are also symptoms. Some may have regurgitation of food or liquids or sour taste in mouth.

Get tested. : The tests to accurately diagnose reflux include an egd (upper endoscopy), a 24hr ph study, and an esophageal manometry. These will accurately diagnose gerd while ruling out problems that mimick reflux.
