Perhaps: Peppermint oil is a smooth muscle relaxant and can lead to relaxation of the lower esophageal sphincter. I suspect with typical tooth brushing, little to no toothpaste is swallowed so it seems unlikely.

Can: Some people are very sensitive to peppermint oil. This can be moderated by using enteric coated peppermint capsules to calm irritable bowels.
