Generic: Deformity caused by accelerated longitudinal growth of the intercostal cartillages at the time that the sternum is also growing and softer. The cartillages may push the sternum out (pectus carinatum or pigeon chest) or the sternum may be pushed inwards ( pectus excavatum or sunken chest.
