Back pain: Most lumbar disc herniations cause leg pain rather than back pain. Unless the herniation is causing a significant amout of spinal canal narrowing or nerve compression, there may be other reasons for back pain. You cannot rely on radiology reports alone, clinicians that treat spinal problems need to be involved.
