Normal function: A normally functioning knee with good pain relief that should last 10-20 years 80% of the time. Swelling for first few weeks, with some stiffness. Gentle range of motion and rest initially, with advancing activities as swelling resolves.

Less pain more activ: I have performed over 500 robotic arm assisted partial knee replacements using the makoplasty system and have found patients are much happier, have less pain, faster recoveries, and better motion feeling like its their own knee. My patients all go home the same day. The incisions spare the muscle and are about 2-3 inches. Within 3-4 weeks patients return to most low impact activities.

Relief from pain: A partial knee replacement involves a resurfacing of one of three parts of the knee (medial, lateral , or patella-femoral compartments). There may be some lateral knee numbness after surgery. Recovery is quicker than a total knee replacement; usually @6 weeks. After surgery you need to take an antibiotic before any dental or GI procedures and avoid high impact activities.
