HIP REPLACEMENT: Hip replacement is major surgery and takes many hours to do it. Severe swelling after or is due to traumatic surgery and not well established circulation yet. They have to use crutches, undergo intensive physical therapy to properly walk again.

Usually 10 - 15 year: It depend on the level of activity and age at the time of hip replacement. Most hip prostheses which are used currently are expected to last for at least 10 and maybe as long as 20 years before a replacement is necessary.
