Poison Ivy: Without proper treatment of topical and oral cortisone the rash of poison ivy can last for weeks. See your doctor for a prescription. Antibiotics do not treat poison ivy unless the rash is infected.

Oral steroid : If the poison ivy rash is severe (especially if it is significant on the face), an oral steroid is the most appropriate way to get rid of it. For mild cases, calamine lotion, benadryl, (diphenhydramine) Hydrocortisone cream and aveeno oatmeal baths are very helpful otc treatment options.
