Child gets rapid breathing and retractions in chest few days after virus, doesn't respond to albuterol for more than 2 hours. what would be best treatment? can't really prevent sickness and worried about catching next sickness?

This is a typical pattern of response to a viral URI triggered asthma event. The small airway narrowing is triggered by the local irritation and swelling from the virus. This does not recede after albuterol. It is not a simple reaction to some inhaled allergen like cat dander that might reverse quickly. Work with your doc to understand how the meds work & when to worry. This is a long process.
