Treatment not cure: Celiac sprue is a genetic illness, autoimmune disorder with inflammation of small bowel in response to portions of the gluten protein of grains (wheat, rye, spelt, triticale, barley). Currently rx is dietary exclusion of the offending foods-lifelong. Research ongoing into other rx. Dietary exclusion can reverse the bowel changes, and correct many of the nutritional problems. Can recur if restart.

No: Just like rheumatoid arthritis or autoimmune thyroid disease, once you have this it has you, forever. Any time you consume gluten in the future, new autoimmune antibodies will be generated that will attack your gut. Research is ongoing to shut down this reactivity, but such treatment is a future hope, not a present reality.
