Forever?: Approximately 15-25% of patients with hepatitis C infection are able - through unknown mechanisms - to clear the virus through their own immune system. The other % have chronic (long-term) infection and could spread this for life. Bear in mind that the means of acquisition for approx 20% of people is never fully determined.
