A member asked:

Did hepatitis b infect another person through mouth kissing, ?if the other is a chronic carrier ..im confused as ig mucous contains this virus or not

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Unclear: Hep b is not by oral/fecal route transmission like hep a. The virus is present in the saliva but whether it can be transmitted by ingestion is unclear. It can be transmitted if there are open areas or sores in the mouth while deep kissing, like in those with braces.
