Generally safe: Although liver biopsy is relatively safe procedure done as an outpatient, there are risks and complications that can occur. The most significant risk is that of bleeding. Most bleeding associated with liver biopsy is minor however there are cases of severe bleeding that require additional procedures and blood trasnfusions. Other risks include infection and bile duct injury.
