Lose weight&exercise: Sounds simple: but it works--> the best way to reverse 'slight' diabetes and avoid medications is to lose weight and exercise. Weight loss needs to be about 1-2 lbs per week. A healthy balanced diet to include fish, fruits, veggies, beans, whole grains will 'keep your heart healthy' since diabetes carries up to a 4x risk of heart attack compared with general population. Go for it!

Weight loss: If you have diabetes mellitus, type 2 and you are overweight, then you could potentially control (may not cure)your diabetes by losing weight. Try working with a dietitian to figure out what your caloric intake should be and set goals you can reasonably achieve. Adding exercise to your daily routine (at least 30 min of walking/day) will help by increasing your metabolism, which means more energy!

Lifestyle Changes: Assuming you mean type 2 diabetes, treatment typically consists of lifestyle modification (healthy diet/portion size, weight loss, and exercise) and often times oral medication. There is no cure, but many get their diabetes under control so well that their doctors might take them off of medicine for as long as an individual's healthy lifestyle permits.
