Rupture: The disc is that structure that is placed between each vertebra. It acts as a cushion that help absorb shocks from the axial loading of the spine. A herniation indicates that the annular or outer fibers of the disc cannot no longer contain the soft nucleus pulposus. It is like a hole in a tube of tooth paste that develope a hole. The paste begin to push out thru the hole onto the nerve.
