A member asked:

What is prolapsed disc or disk?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Prolapsed Disc: A prolapsed disc is a situation where the squishy center of a spinal disc (the nucleus) makes its way out through tears or fissures in the tougher outer disc fibers (annulus) due to ongoing repetitive or one significant force, more easily with age related degeneration. This may be a painful situation, and may or may not involve the nerve or spinal cord structures nearby (depending on the region).
