Nornal Aging: Disc prolapse, bulging, and herniation are part of normal aging and having one doesn't mean you you will have pain or disability. About 50% of asymptomatic individuals (without history of low back pain) aged 20-39 have bulging discs and about 21% have ruptured discs in their lumbar spine (low back).
