Same thing sort of: The spine refers to the bones that go from the skull to the end of the spine called the coccyx (tailbone), so a fractured spine is actually a fractured/broken back. The location is important as some back fractures are worse and more dangerous than others. The body of the bone can break (compression fracture) or the spinous process or "wings" to the side of these bones can break, or the connections.
