History, exam, PFTs: A physician integrates information you provide, a thorough physical examination, and supplementary tests. Developing wheezing, coughing, chest tightness etc after exercise is one clue to exercise-induced asthma. Pulmonary function testing (pfts) can be very useful as well. Both allergist and pulmonary experts usually can do pfts in their office. Lab tests or x-rays sometimes assist.
