Pulmonologists: These physicians specialize in diseases of the lung including asthma, copd, lung cancer, etc. However, your family physician is also quite capable of treating asthma that responds to medications. Pulmonologists are often used when difficult, resistant cases occur.

Specializes in Allergy and Immunology

Allergists: Allergists are highly trained to deal with asthma especially in the clinic setting. Over 90% of children with asthma have allergies and nearly 50% of adults with asthma have allergies. Allergists are trained to deal with the entire airway (nose, sinus, lungs) as they are commonly inter-related. Pulmonologists also take care of asthma especially in the ICU of hospitals.
